    Cassette + Digital Album

Extremely limited cassette edition of 15 tapes with three different versions of the original Brain Bug sleeve.

Each edition of WORK OUT is recorded onto a unique recycled cassette from the teenage tape collection of a human being from Welwyn Garden City, England. The purchase of each cassette brings no virgin plastics into the world and utilises a cassettes' original utopian function.

The artwork expands on Christopher Goodman's original Brain Bug imagery not found on the original digital release. Each sleeve is a beautiful Giclee print on 280gsm textured cotton paper.

about

Brain bug integrates with the skull. Its violation shows us the porous nature of the body and our inability to seal ourselves off from the world and all its creepy crawlies that live outside us, on our skin and also within us, in the deepest recesses of our internal systems. These cellular replicators are a part of us, they constitute us - there is no division between them and us – we live in symbiosis, all the way up and all the way down.

Brain bug also reflects the way virulent thought-systems invade and colonise the human mind, with knock-on destructive violences played out by the human, each upon them-self, or upon others, depending upon certain chemical activations, historical accidents, personality and environment.

This image, in its presentation as a 3d model, greyed out, rotating on its boxy mapped dias, reflects a mode of seeing that is computational, assisted by artificial intelligence – as all of our seeing is now computational and AI. Much like the actual bugs that live in the folds of our intestine, digital bugs colonise our brains, remapping our perceptual apparatus into a biological-machinic assemblage. In fact there is no longer any meaningful distinction.

in a skull is a landscape, where an unreal engine of possibilities play out. This is the internal landscape of a skull.
