in a skull is an audio-visual recording project between artist Grant Foster (vocals, guitars) and William Lee (synths, drum machines, guitars). Having expanded to incorporate permanent members to explore live performance, artists Laura Wormell (woodwind, synths, vocals) and Christian Newby (drums and percussion), in a skull present their third, full length album in three years, “Write Now! Or Forever Hold Your Peace”.

The album tells the story of a person within a daily life cycle. Journeying through work, non-pathological, consensual perversions, love, psychedelic mind expansion, and tragedy — culminating in a mythical return homewards, to rest inside the place of one’s own birth, “Write Now! Or Forever Hold Your Peace” is ecstatic as it is sorrowful — it’s sound reminiscent of a pastoral psychedelia overlaid by the bands’ industrial roots.

Expanding upon Brion Gysin’s cut up method, in a skull place themselves within an experimental industrial and electronic musical lineage that includes Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Coil and Psychic TV. Similarly, this is where the recording process is an attempt to utilise aspects of the control machine, for collective and telepathic good.

“Write Now! Or Forever Hold Your Peace” was recorded in London across various rooms, including domestic environments, the outside world and at Hermitage works recording studios, between 2021-22.
